Benue Orders Political Appointees Eyeing 2027 Elections to Resign

The Benue State Government has directed all political appointees with intentions to contest in future elections to tender their resignations immediately.

The directive was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, and signed by the Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode.

According to the statement, the decision is aimed at ensuring transparency and proper administrative procedure as political activities begin to intensify across the state ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Political appointees aspiring to run for elective offices are required to submit their formal resignation letters along with official expressions of interest stating the offices they plan to contest for.

“All such submissions must be forwarded to the Office of the Deputy Governor no later than Thursday, December 18, 2025,” the statement read.

The Benue government explained that adhering to the timeline would allow sufficient time for the documents to be forwarded to the Executive Governor for review and necessary action.

The directive, it explained, is designed to maintain focus and efficiency within government operations while offering political appointees a fair opportunity to pursue their ambitions through the proper channels.
