An investigative panel has debunked widespread allegations that Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, was kept out of prison while serving his six-month sentence. However, the panel’s report reveals that the convicted cross-dresser did receive notable privileges during his time behind bars.
The panel, which was tasked with probing accusations that Bobrisky was allowed to live outside the custodial center during his sentence, has now officially dismissed the claims.
Uju Agomoh, Executive Director of the Prisoners’ Rehabilitation and Welfare Action (PRAWA), and a member of the panel, clarified that there was no evidence to support the accusation.
“The panel did not find any evidence thus far that suggested Mr. Okuneye slept outside the custodial center during the period of his imprisonment,” Agomoh stated.
She further confirmed that Bobrisky served his sentence from April 12, 2024, to August 5, 2024, with the usual remission applied to such cases.
While the panel confirmed Bobrisky’s incarceration, it also acknowledged that he received certain “privileges,” although specific details of these privileges were not fully disclosed.
The revelation of special treatment behind bars has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the extent of favoritism shown to the social media personality during his prison term.
Bobrisky, a controversial figure known for his lavish lifestyle and defiant personality, has often found himself in the spotlight for his legal battles and extravagant displays of wealth. His prison sentence stemmed from charges of fraud and public misconduct, but even behind bars, it seems his larger-than-life persona followed him.
The panel’s findings put an end to rumors of preferential treatment allowing Bobrisky to evade prison time altogether, but the confirmation of privileges raises new questions about the administration of justice for high-profile individuals in Nigeria’s penal system.
