Boko Haram militants have launched a deadly attack on Buni Yadi, the hometown of Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, killing two sons of a police officer and setting their house ablaze.
The attack occurred in the Shuwari Baban Layi area around 1:00 am on Monday, throwing the community into panic.
Local sources revealed that the insurgents targeted the residence of Malam Jibrin, a police inspector serving as the crime officer at the Buni Yadi Police Station.
While Jibrin reportedly escaped by scaling the fence, the attackers turned on his two sons, aged 25 and 27, slaughtering them before setting their bodies and the house on fire.
A vigilante source, who spoke anonymously, disclosed that the attackers are suspected to have come from the Buk and Talala areas, approximately 30 kilometers east of Buni Yadi.
“The insurgents arrived around 1:00 am and operated freely for about 54 minutes without any interference,” the source said.

The area had recently witnessed another violent incident where Boko Haram militants killed an army commandant, several soldiers, and vigilantes in an ambush.
Residents lamented the worsening security situation in the area, with many living in constant fear of further attacks.
“People can no longer sleep with their eyes closed,” said Muhammad Garba, a resident. “The roads are unsafe, and even within the town, nowhere is secure.”
As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigerian military nor local authorities have issued an official statement on the attack.
