Borno Police Distribute ₦20.1m To Fallen Officers’ Families

The Borno State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has paid out ₦20,137,770.34 to families of nine officers who died while serving the country under its Group Life Insurance Scheme.

The disbursement was approved by the Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, and presented to beneficiaries made up of next-of-kin and relatives of the deceased officers. The cheque presentation ceremony was organised to provide financial relief to the families, particularly in the areas of education, healthcare, and overall welfare.

Details of the payment were disclosed in a statement released Thursday, the 19th of February, 2026, by the Command’s spokesperson, Nahum Daso.

“The Commissioner of Police, Borno State Command, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has successfully disbursed a total sum of ₦20,137,770.34 to 9 beneficiaries under the Group Life Insurance Scheme,” the statement read.

Representing the CP at the event, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Department of Finance and Administration, DCP Ibrahim Sumaila, delivered a message on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun. He reiterated that the Force remains committed to prioritising the welfare of its personnel and their loved ones.

“The Group Life Insurance Scheme is a testament to the IGP’s compassion, accountability, and exemplary leadership in honouring officers who made the ultimate sacrifice for national peace and security,” DCP Sumaila said.

He advised recipients to manage the funds responsibly, noting that the scheme serves as an important financial cushion for families of officers who paid the ultimate price in service.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Mr. Modu Ishaku expressed appreciation to the IGP for the support and pledged that the money would be put to good use.

The payout comes barely a month after a similar exercise in January 2026, when the Command distributed about ₦18.38 million to nine bereaved families.

The Group Life Assurance Scheme of the Nigeria Police Force is designed to ensure sustained support for officers’ dependents across the country, reaffirming the institution’s dedication to their welfare even after tragic losses in active service.
