The Borno State Ministry of Water Resources has announced plans to temporarily ration water in parts of Maiduguri for two-day intervals, citing the need for ongoing maintenance and repairs of the city’s water network following recent flooding.
In a statement on Monday, the Commissioner for Water Resources, Tijjani Goni, explained the rationale behind the decision.
“The Borno State Ministry of Water Resources wishes to inform the general public that, in continuation of its routine maintenance and repairs of broken-down water facilities and networks as a result of the flood that affected Maiduguri Metropolitan Council and its environs, work is steadily progressing,” Goni stated.
He further noted that ministry engineers are actively working to fix the faulty water facilities.
“The engineers of the ministry are currently carrying out repairs and maintenance work on faulty facilities, and the pumping of water will be temporarily rationed for two-day intervals in some areas, pending permanent repairs and maintenance work on the water facilities,” Goni explained.
He thanked residents for their cooperation during this period, adding that the government is working diligently to fully restore the water supply.
