‘Borrowed Wigs, Rented Clothes’ – Comedian AY Slams Fake Celebrity Lifestyle

Comedian and actor Ayo Makun, widely known as AY, has urged Nigerians to stop comparing their lives to what they see on social media, stressing that much of it is staged and far from reality.

In a video he posted on Instagram on Thursday, the 16th of October, AY explained that online platforms often showcase an exaggerated world filled with luxury cars, fancy vacations, and designer clothes, images that make success look easy and instant.

He pointed out that many of these displays are not genuine but rather well-arranged performances meant to impress. According to AY, some social media personalities borrow clothes, take photos in hotel lobbies, or pose with cars they don’t own, all to create a fake image of success.

AY compared social media to a movie set where everything is carefully arranged, urging people to stop chasing illusions and focus instead on building their own lives with honesty and patience.

“Many of these celebrities you envy are living on borrowed wigs, borrowed outfits, and borrowed lifestyles. Some take pictures in hotel lobbies and call them their new homes, while others pose with cars that don’t belong to them. Social media is like a movie set; not everything you see online is real.”

He encouraged his followers to “grow at their own pace,” stay genuine, and find satisfaction in real progress rather than in comparisons with others.
