BREAKING: ‘herdsmen’ attack Gov Ortom

Gunmen suspected to be herdsmen on Saturday (today) attacked Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom.

FirstNews learnt that the incident happened at Tyo Mu along Makurdi/Gboko road in Makurdi Local Government Area of the state.

Governor Ortom told newsmen that about 15 of the “herdsmen” trailed him to the river bank where he was on foot.

Expressing his gratitude to his security details, he said that but for their quick response something terrible might have happened to him.

According to the governor, six of his security details repelled the attack on him and provided cover for him to return to safety and his vehicles.

The governor said following the incident that troops of Operation Whirl stroke, the police and DSS had mobilised to the forest between Tyo-Mu and Abinse where the armed herdsmen camp to comb the area.

The Benue State governor called for the immediate arrest and prosecution of the leadership of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore.

He alleged that the group last week, gathered in Yola, capital of Adamawa state and singled him out for assassination.

Governor Ortom went further to call on President Muhammadu Buhari and the security chiefs to expect a formal petition from his lawyers, urging for an urgent move to address the situation.
