The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Thursday affirmed the leadership of David Mark as the recognized head of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), marking a decisive moment in the party’s internal leadership dispute.
The apex court, in a unanimous decision, struck out the appeal filed by Nafiu Bala, which had sought to maintain the status quo. The ruling effectively validates Mark and his team as the legitimate leadership of the party.
In addition, the court directed that the matter be returned to the Federal High Court for further proceedings, signaling that while a major legal hurdle has been cleared, the process toward final resolution is still ongoing.
Reacting to the judgment, the ADC National Youth Leader, Balarabe Rufai, described the outcome as “strong and encouraging” for party members and supporters. He noted that the ruling reinforces the position of the current leadership and keeps the legal process on track for final clarity.

Rufai also congratulated committed members of the party, urging them to remain focused as the legal and political journey continues.
The judgment is expected to ease tensions within the party and provide a clearer direction for its leadership structure ahead of future political activities.
