A higher wage and welfare program have been approved by President Muhammadu Buhari for Nigerian judicial officials.
The President made this announcement on Friday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, at the opening of the Dr. Nabo Graham Douglas Campus of the Nigerian Law School, which the Nyesom Wike administration had constructed.
Abubakar Malami, SAN, Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, who attended the event in Buhari’s place, said that the enhanced welfare program for judicial employees and numerous other initiatives are intended to significantly increase the capacity and independence of the judiciary, which continues to be a pillar of strength and stability for our democracy.
“Let me use this opportunity also to inform you that as part of the effort to enhance the welfare of judicial officers, Mr President has recently approved an enhanced salary and welfare scheme for judicial officers and accordingly directed the Chairman Revenue Mobilization and Fiscal Allocation Commission and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice to promptly commence measures towards the realisation and implementation of these directives,” Malami, who represented the President, said.
In addition, he promised that the Buhari administration would keep working to reform the judiciary as part of a crucial plan to ensure a just, forward-thinking, and successful society with the rule of law at its core.
The President praised Governor Wike for finishing the project within a year of receiving approval, calling it a remarkable accomplishment for a project of this size.
Further praising Wike, Buhari stated that he chose to ignore political concerns and present Wike with the Excellence Award in Public Service in October in honor of the governor’s multiple historic initiatives for the state’s human and economic development.
Numerous dignitaries, including senators, representatives, and members of the Council of Legal Education, among others, were present for the opening of the Nigerian Law School’s seventh site.
