Malam Mamman Daura, elder statesman and senior family member of late President Muhammadu Buhari, has expressed deep gratitude to Nigerians and global dignitaries for their support during the family’s period of mourning.
In a statement issued by Malam Garba Shehu, Daura said the overwhelming show of solidarity from all corners of the country and beyond made the difficult moment more bearable.
He especially appreciated President Bola Tinubu and First Lady Remi Tinubu, describing their gestures as “truly comforting.”
Daura also extended his appreciation to Vice President Kashim Shettima, who travelled to the United Kingdom and later visited Daura alongside ministers during the mourning period. “These have instilled confidence in all of us to face this loss with courage,” he said.
He commended the Federal Government for declaring a public holiday and renaming the University of Maiduguri after the late President, saying such moves brought solace to the bereaved family.

Daura also acknowledged the outpouring of sympathy from foreign dignitaries, including King Charles III of England, the UN Secretary-General and his deputy, Amina Mohammed, as well as leaders of the African Union and ECOWAS.
The family further thanked past and present state governors, the National Assembly, traditional rulers, religious leaders, and members of the public who either visited in person or sent messages.
Daura highlighted the roles played by former vice presidents Atiku Abubakar, Namadi Sambo, Yemi Osinbajo, and Ambassador Babagana Kingibe.
He named business moguls Aliko Dangote, Abdul Samad Rabiu, Muhammadu Indimi, Dahiru Mangal, Kola Adesina, and Nasiru Danu among those who personally visited Daura to offer condolences.
“We are deeply grateful for the visits, condolence messages, and prayers for him. We are thankful to all. We respect your prayers as I and the family go through this period,” Daura said, adding, “May the Almighty Allah bless and reward you all.”
