Former President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sorrow over the passing of nationalist and elder statesman Pa Ayodele Adebanjo.

In a statement issued on Friday by his spokesman, Garba Shehu, Buhari described Adebanjo’s death as a great loss to the nation.

“The late Chief Adebanjo was one of those rare politicians who straddled the worlds of the legal profession, politics, and socio-cultural activism,” the statement read.

Buhari also prayed for the repose of Adebanjo’s soul and strength for his family, admirers, and the people of Ogun State to bear the loss.

Adebanjo, a prominent chieftain of the pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group Afenifere, died at the age of 94 at his Lekki residence in Lagos State.
