Buhari swears Justice Ariwoola in as CJN

Justice Ariwoola Olukayode has been sworn in as the Chief Justice of Nigeria by President Muhammadu Buhari.

In a brief ceremony on Wednesday, Justice Ariwoola took the judicial oath of office in Abuja’s Council Chambers before the start of the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, ministers, Supreme Court justices, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and his Ondo State counterpart, Rotimi Akeredolu all attended the ceremony.

The CJN promised improvements at the top court at a media interaction, pleading with lawmakers to allow the judiciary to operate at its best as the 2023 elections get near.

Justice Ariwoola has been functioning as the CJN in an acting capacity since the former CJN, Justice Tanko Muhammad, resigned due to health reasons.
