Buratai Slams ₦1bn Defamation Suit Against Ali-Keffi

Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai (retd.), has instituted a ₦1 billion defamation suit against a fellow retired senior military officer, Maj. Gen. Danjuma Hamisu Ali-Keffi (retd.), before the Kaduna State High Court over alleged statements linking him to terrorism-related activities.

The writ of summons was filed on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at the Kaduna Judicial Division of the High Court.

According to the suit, Ali-Keffi allegedly made and circulated false statements in 2025 insinuating that Buratai had links to terrorism financing, Boko Haram suspects, and the unlawful release of terror suspects during his tenure as Chief of Army Staff.

Buratai’s legal team argued that the publications were widely circulated online, gaining national and international reach and causing significant damage to his reputation, integrity, and professional standing.

As of the time of filing, no hearing date had been fixed, and the defendant had yet to file a response.
