Bose Ogulu, mother and manager of Afrobeats star Burna Boy, has revealed that she sometimes takes away her son’s phone when his Instagram Live sessions become excessive.
Ogulu made the disclosure during an interview with media personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu on Channels Television, where she discussed the singer’s personality and his controversial moments on social media.
She explained that she had learned to allow Burna Boy to express himself rather than attempting to completely change the traits that define his personality.
“You can always notice the difference between when I tweet and when Burna tweets. What I’ve come to learn is that artists like him, they’re like a tapestry. If you pull at one thread too hard, everything will unravel,” she said.
According to Ogulu, the emotions that sometimes contribute to Burna Boy’s controversial behaviour are also part of what makes him appealing to his fans.

“So you must make allowances for this person being himself, because it’s the same emotion that what you love about him comes from,” she said.
However, she noted that she still intervenes when she believes her son has gone too far during his Instagram Live sessions.
“Within, we do what we can. I usually grab his phone from him anytime he goes wild on Instagram Live,” Ogulu said.
Burna Boy, whose real name is Damini Ogulu, is known for his outspoken personality and strong presence on social media. His Instagram Live sessions have occasionally generated public attention because of his comments, reactions and interactions with fans.
Ogulu’s comments highlight her approach to managing the Grammy-winning singer, suggesting that she balances allowing him to remain authentic with stepping in when his online conduct becomes excessive.
