Bus Crushes Pedestrian To Death In Ogun

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a Toyota Coaster bus at Imowo, along the Imowo–Ibadan Road inward Ijebu Ode in Ogun State.

It was gathered on Monday that the incident occurred at about 4:45 pm on Sunday and resulted in heavy traffic congestion along the axis, as the bus obstructed the roadway.

The spokesperson for the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed the development, noting that operatives and police officers from the Obalende Division were promptly deployed to the scene to manage traffic and carry out rescue operations.

According to him, the crash happened when the pedestrian allegedly failed to check the other side of the road before attempting to cross.

He also explained that there was a temporary diversion to a single lane outward Ijebu Ode due to ongoing road rehabilitation work in the area.

The statement read, “According to eyewitness account, the pedestrian forgot to check the other side of the road before crossing the road. There is diversion to one lane due to ongoing road rehabilitation on the axis.”

According to the TRACE Head of Media, the Toyota Coaster bus involved in the crash was later removed from the road and taken to the Igbeba Police Area Command for further investigation.

The agency also confirmed that normal traffic flow was restored after the vehicle was evacuated.

Meanwhile, reports earlier indicated that another crash along the Third Mainland Bridge claimed the life of a police officer riding on a motorcycle after he was hit by a Lexus vehicle. The driver reportedly surrendered himself to the police following the incident.
