The Niger State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria has condemned the attack on St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary Schools in Papiri, where gunmen abducted students, teachers, and a security worker.
In a statement issued on Friday, November 21, by its Chairman, Most Rev. Bulus Yohanna, CAN described the incident as disturbing and deeply painful.
“The Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State, Most. Rev. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, formerly, notifies all that suspected terrorists invaded St. Mary’s Catholic Primary and Secondary schools in Papiri, Agwarra local government area of Niger state,” the statement read.
It added that the assailants abducted pupils, students, teachers, and a security personnel who was “badly shot” during the invasion.
“The CAN strongly condemns the attack and expresses deep concern for the safety of the kidnapped children and their families,” the statement partly read.

Yohanna, who also serves as the Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, said the Church is working closely with security agencies, community leaders, and the government to support rescue efforts.
He urged residents to remain calm and continue offering prayers for the abductees.
“The CAN also reaffirms our commitment to the protection of Children and promises to provide further updates as verified information becomes available.
“May the Lord grant quick release to those abducted and continue to protect his people from all dangers.”
Residents said the gunmen arrived in large numbers, riding over 60 motorcycles and backed by a van.
The school’s gatekeeper was reportedly shot and left with severe injuries as the attackers forced their way in.
