A 35-year-old Canada-based Nigerian, Idris Olajide Oladejo, has been charged with sexual assault and sexual interference following the alleged assault of a child at a grocery store in Toronto.
According to the Toronto Police Service (TPS), Oladejo, a resident of Toronto, was arrested on Tuesday, June 23, after investigators identified him as the suspect in the incident, which allegedly occurred two days earlier.
Police said the alleged assault took place at about 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 21, in the Victoria Park Avenue and St. Clair Avenue East area, where the child was shopping with their parents.
Authorities said officers responded after receiving reports that an unknown man allegedly sexually assaulted the child before fleeing the scene. A civilian reportedly chased the suspect as he escaped.
Following the incident, investigators released a description of the suspect and appealed to the public for information that could help identify him.

The suspect was initially described as a man believed to be about 30 years old with a thin build. He was last seen wearing a green T-shirt, dark-coloured Adidas shorts and pink Crocs.
In an update issued on the investigation, the Toronto Police Service announced that Oladejo had been arrested and charged with one count each of sexual assault and sexual interference.
Police said the accused was scheduled to appear before the Toronto Regional Bail Centre on Tuesday, June 23.
The Toronto Police Service noted that sexual assault includes any form of unwanted sexual contact and urged anyone with additional information related to the case to contact investigators.
