Catholic Bishop, Peter Obi advocate for clean leadership, social responsibility

The Catholic Bishop of Orlu Diocese, His Grace Most Reverend Augustine Ukwuoma, delivered a poignant message on Sunday, urging leaders in society to avoid staining their hands with blood and instead focus on supporting human development and Christianity.

The Bishop made these remarks during the dedication of the newly constructed St. Mary’s Catholic Parish in Umuorji, Mgbidi, Oru East council area of Imo state.

The newly built church stands as a testament to communal effort, with financial assistance from Mr. Ezenwa Collins Ilo, who received commendation for his contribution to the community’s spiritual growth. Bishop Ukwuoma emphasized the sanctity of the House of God and encouraged the faithful to keep their hands clean from bloodstains, emphasizing the importance of using wealth for positive endeavors.

In alignment with the call for responsible leadership, the 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party, LP, Peter Obi, echoed the sentiment that the time has come for Nigeria’s leaders to use their wealth to address poverty in society. Speaking at the dedication ceremony, Obi commended those involved in the construction of the church and encouraged individuals, like Ezenwa Collins Ilo, to continue contributing to community and national development.

“A church is built by a community, and we are all here today by the grace of God,” said Peter Obi. “I commend those who God has used as an instrument to build the church because it is for the community. We as a people should be faithful to God and assist our communities and Nigeria to achieve better things.”

The messages from Bishop Ukwuoma and Peter Obi emphasize the dual responsibilities of leaders—to maintain moral integrity and actively contribute to societal well-being. The dedication ceremony serves as a call for leaders to prioritize service and community development over actions that could tarnish their hands with blood.
