CBEX: EFCC Drops Bitar from Wanted List

The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) has taken Ellie Bitar, a foreign national, off its wanted list in connection with the Crypto Bridge Exchange (CBEX) fraud.

This development came after the EFCC reviewed new information that no longer supported Bitar’s inclusion.

The agency’s statement said:
“Ellie Bitar of CBEX Solutions Ltd., who was earlier declared wanted has since been removed from the list owing to new information that does not support his inclusion in the wanted person’s list.”

The EFCC emphasized ongoing progress in its investigations. It highlighted cooperation with law enforcement agencies worldwide to track and arrest all suspects involved.

“The Commission is making significant progress in its investigations, with law enforcement agencies worldwide working together to track and apprehend all the wanted individuals. The EFCC will continue its efforts to bring all those involved in the fraudulent activities to justice,” the statement read in part.

EFCC spokesperson, Oyewale, described the search for the remaining eight individuals linked to the CBEX fraud as “making substantial progress.”

Many Nigerians voiced their frustrations online after losing funds when the CBEX scheme reportedly collapsed in April.

The EFCC declared eight people wanted for their alleged involvement in the fraud connected to the online trading platform.

The Federal High Court in Abuja also granted the EFCC authority to arrest and detain those promoting the CBEX scheme as part of the investigation.
