The Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa, has reacted positively to the decision of a Finnish court that sentenced Simon Ekpa to six years imprisonment for offences linked to terrorism.
The judgment was handed down by the Päijät-Häme District Court in Finland, a move Gen. Musa described as an important milestone in efforts to tackle terrorism worldwide.
In a statement issued on Monday, the 1st of September, 2025, by the Director of Defence Information, Brigadier-General Tukur Gusau, the CDS noted that “the verdict shows that individuals who incite or finance violence will be held accountable, regardless of their location.”
He praised the Finnish judicial authorities for seeing the case through and also recognised the contributions of Nigerian security agencies, intelligence units, and diplomats, whose evidence and coordination played a role in securing the conviction.

Gen. Musa reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigerian military to work hand in hand with international allies in dismantling terrorist groups.
He further called on Nigerians to stay alert and continue backing the country’s security forces in combating insurgency and separatist violence.
