Multiple victims were reported on Sunday, September 28, 2025, after a shooting at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Grand Blanc, Michigan, where the building was also set on fire, according to police.
Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson confirmed that the “shooter is down” and said the situation was “active and dynamic.”
Authorities evacuated the area, with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies responding.
Officials have not released the number of casualties but said six to eight victims were being treated as part of the preliminary reports.
The attack occurred less than 24 hours after the death of Russell M. Nelson, the president of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who died on Saturday at the age of 101.
Nelson, who became the church’s oldest-serving president, had led the faith since 2018.
