Brigadier General Buhari Madaki has hailed the recruits of Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo for showing strong spirit and dedication during their training. He also applauded the officers and instructors for handling their duties with high professionalism.
He made these remarks during the flag-off of the Inter-Company Obstacle Crossing Competition for recruits of the 89 Regular Intake. The contest was organised to build teamwork and sharpen combat skills among trainees.
The statement was released on Sunday, the 9th of November, 2025, by Major Yahaya Ibrahim, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, Depot Nigerian Army, Osogbo.
The event took place on Saturday, the 8th of November, 2025, at the Obstacle Ground. It formed part of the formal training programme set up to prepare recruits for tough physical and mental tasks they may face in real operations.
Recruits tackled several obstacle stages that tested stamina, speed, and problem-solving. Each challenge was designed to mirror real combat difficulties and push participants to give their best.
General Madaki addressed the trainees, saying: “This competition is a crucial part of your training, preparing you for the rigours of combat and the challenges of life as soldiers. You must continue to imbibe the spirit of teamwork, courage, and resilience which are the hallmark of a professional soldier,” Madaki said.

He restated that the Depot is committed to producing disciplined, physically fit, mentally prepared, and combat-ready soldiers who will serve the country with honour. He also highlighted the Nigerian Army’s focus on strong mental and physical conditioning as a key requirement for effective performance on the field.
Charlie Training Company claimed first place after showing remarkable unity and strength throughout the contest. Delta Training Company ended at the wooden spoon position, while outstanding individuals from various stages of the event received medals and commendations for their efforts.
