China Warns US-Iran Conflict Could Trigger Uncontrollable Middle East Crisis

China has issued a strong warning over escalating tensions in the Middle East, cautioning that continued hostilities between the United States and Iran could spiral into an “uncontrollable situation” with far-reaching global consequences.

Speaking on Monday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian expressed concern following recent threats by US President Donald Trump to target Iran’s energy infrastructure if Tehran fails to lift its partial blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Trump had reportedly issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Iran, warning of severe retaliation, including potential strikes on power plants, if disruptions in the strategic waterway continue. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global النفط transit route, accounting for nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil shipments.

China, a key economic partner of Iran and a major importer of Middle Eastern oil, warned that any further escalation could destabilise not only the region but also global energy markets.

“The use of force will only lead to a vicious cycle,” Lin said, adding that worsening conflict could push the region into chaos.

Beijing has maintained a delicate diplomatic balance, condemning attacks on Gulf states hosting US military bases while also opposing military escalation against Iran. The Chinese government has consistently called for a ceasefire and dialogue as the preferred path forward.

In a bid to ease tensions, China has dispatched its special envoy, Zhai Jun, to engage regional stakeholders and promote de-escalation efforts. Foreign Minister Wang Yi had earlier described the conflict as avoidable and urged all parties to halt hostilities.

The situation has raised concerns over global energy security, with disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz already impacting oil supply routes and driving market volatility.

As diplomatic efforts continue, analysts warn that failure to de-escalate could have severe economic and humanitarian consequences, underscoring the urgency for international cooperation to stabilise the region.
