American R&B artist Chris Brown has been denied bail by a Manchester Magistrates’ Court following his arrest on Thursday, May 15, in connection with an alleged violent incident at a London nightclub in 2023.

The 36-year-old singer, known for chart-topping hits and a history of legal troubles, is facing a charge of “inflicting grievous bodily harm” in what prosecutors described as an “unprovoked attack” involving a bottle.

The incident is said to have taken place on February 19, 2023, at Tape, a high-end nightclub in the Mayfair district of London.

Prosecutor Hannah Nicholls told the court on Friday that Brown assaulted music producer Abe Diaw during the altercation, which allegedly left the victim with significant injuries.

Brown, who is currently in the United Kingdom as part of his world tour, was apprehended in Manchester just before his scheduled performance at the Co-Op Live Arena.

Presiding over the bail hearing, District Judge Joanne Hirst ruled that Brown be remanded into state custody. She also directed that the case be transferred to Southwark Crown Court in London, with the next hearing set for June 13.

This latest legal development adds to the singer’s controversial public record, which includes prior convictions and allegations involving assault and other violent conduct.

If convicted, Brown could face significant legal consequences under UK law.
