Cocoa House elevator collapses, kills one, injures three

One person has been reportedly killed while three others were critically injured when the elevator of the famous Cocoa House Skyscraper building, Ibadan, crashed on Wednesday.
FirstNews gathered that tragedy struck when repair works were being carried out on the faulty elevator by a combined team of engineers from a reputable engineering firm around 11.00 am
The elevator car, as reliably informed, dropped and crashed on the head of one of the members of the team at the basement pit, resulting in a loud bang.
When contacted, the Head, Corporate Affairs of Odua Investment Company, owner of Cocoa House, Mr Victor Ayetoro, confirmed the incident.
According to him, “At around 11.00am this morning, the lift installation team from our contractor handling the lift and  who were working on  dismantling the old lift in readiness for a new lift instalment, while working on the lift suffered a mechanical failure.”
“The said failure resulted in the lift car dropping and crashing into the basement pit. Unfortunately, one of the technicians in the team did not survive the incident.
“Three other technicians suffered minor injuries and have been taken to the hospital for check up/ treatment. The head office of the company has been informed and their representatives have arrived to take charge of the situation while the Police have also been informed,”
