College Rector Jailed 7 Years for Fake Degree Scam

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has secured a conviction against Mr. Olaniran Satiregun for offering unauthorized academic programmes in Nasarawa State.

Satiregun, who established and headed the International College of Administration Science and Technology in Auta Balefi, faced prosecution after allegations of fraud emerged.

In 2024, he and the college were dragged to court on a three-count charge involving obtaining money under false pretence.

The charges stemmed from the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act.

ICPC’s legal team, led by Adesina Raheem, presented evidence showing that Satiregun and the institution misled applicants into enrolling for programmes that lacked official accreditation.

Findings showed that the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) had only approved four programmes for the college.

Despite this, the institution reportedly admitted students into unapproved courses such as Nursing, Public Health, and Computer Science between 2019 and 2021.

Delivering judgement on the 29th of July, 2025, Justice Anyalewa Onoja-Alapa of the Federal High Court in Lafia found both Satiregun and the college guilty.

Satiregun was handed a seven-year jail term with no option of fine.

The court also ordered the refund of all fees paid by students enrolled in the illegal programmes and instructed the institution to restrict its operations to only the four NBTE-approved courses.
