… as Alebiosu hints at Gunners’ stay
The battle for the new season’s Community Shield will take place at Wembley on Saturday August 29, the English FA has confirmed.
The traditional curtain-raiser for the new season will see Premier League champions, Liverpool play either Arsenal or Chelsea, who meet in this Saturday’s FA Cup final.
1stnewsonline.com gathered that the kick-off time for the Community Shield cracker will be announced at a later date.
The match could also welcome a restricted number of supporters into Wembley as part of plans for supporters to make a socially-distanced return to sports venues more widely from October 1.
The announcement comes after the Premier League revealed last week that the 2020/21 season would start on September 12 and run until May 23, 2021.
The EFL has also confirmed the Championship, League One and League Two seasons will commence on the same weekend, with their regular seasons ending on the weekend of May 8, 2021.
Man City won last season’s Community Shield by beating Liverpool at Wembley.
Meanwhile, Nigerian youngster, Ryan Alebiosu, has given the biggest hint yet that his future lies with Arsenal.
The 18-year-old was one of the players retained by Arsenal for the upcoming season, with the north London club offering him his first professional contract.
But there has been no official word from the Emirates Stadium outfit as to whether or not Alebiosu accepted the offer.
Uncertainty over his future is beginning to clear after he was spotted training with the Arsenal U23 squad at Arsenal Training Center on Tuesday, July 28.
Alebiosu wore an U23 jersey number, 36, during the workout at London Colney.
He has played nonstop at Arsenal since the age of seven and has admitted that he’s similar in style to Alex Iwobi, when he plays on the wing.
