Corrupt Nigerian Govt Officials Risk Visa Ban — U.S. Embassy

The United States has issued a fresh warning to Nigerian government officials, saying anyone found guilty of corruption could be denied entry into the country.

In a statement shared on its official X handle on Monday, September 22, the US Mission in Nigeria stressed that accountability applies to everyone, no matter their position.

“Fighting corruption knows no borders or limits on accountability. Even when high-profile individuals engage in corruption, they can be barred from receiving US Visas,” the Mission said.

The US has a history of taking such measures. In the past, visa bans were placed on Nigerian politicians accused of election rigging and undermining democratic processes.

This latest warning comes at a time when public outrage over corruption and the misuse of public funds is growing across Nigeria.

According to Washington, restricting visas for corrupt officials is part of a wider effort to promote good governance, strengthen accountability, and uphold the rule of law in countries it partners with.
