A Federal High Court in Abuja has invalidated the suspension of Kogi lawmaker, Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing it as unconstitutional.
The judgment, delivered on the 4th of July, 2025, by Justice Binta Fatima Nyako, directed the Senate to immediately reinstate the senator.
Justice Nyako ruled that the six-month suspension imposed on Akpoti-Uduaghan infringed on the Constitution and deprived her constituents of proper legislative representation.
She held that although the National Assembly reserves the right to discipline members, such sanctions must not go so far as to silence representation.

In her judgment, Justice Nyako pointed out that the suspension went beyond the 180 legislative sitting days allowed, making it excessive and legally flawed.
While granting relief to the senator, the judge also found her in contempt of court. For this, she was ordered to pay a fine of N5 million.
In addition, the senator must issue a public apology through two national newspapers and on her verified Facebook account.
