The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, has mourned the death of the state Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams.
Williams reportedly died on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at a hospital in Abuja.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Matthew Okache, and made available to journalists in Calabar on Monday, Ayambem described the commissioner’s death as a major loss to Cross River State.
The statement read, “The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, on behalf of the 10th Cross River State House of Assembly, has expressed deep sadness over the death of the Commissioner for Power and Renewable Energy, Prince Eka Williams, describing his passing as a painful loss to Cross River State.”
Ayambem said Williams distinguished himself through his commitment to public service and made valuable contributions to the state’s political development and administration.

He also noted the late commissioner’s role in national discussions on the power sector, particularly through his leadership of the Forum of Commissioners for Power and Energy in Nigeria.
The Speaker extended his condolences to Governor Bassey Otu, members of the State Executive Council, the All Progressives Congress, residents of Ikom and Akparabong communities, and the deceased’s family, friends and associates.
Ayambem said Williams remained dedicated to the progress of Cross River throughout his public service.
“Prince Eka Williams believed in service and gave himself to the advancement of Cross River. His death is a painful loss to the state, and his contributions to public service will not be forgotten”, the speaker added.
The Speaker prayed for God’s comfort and strength for the deceased’s family while asking that the late commissioner be granted eternal rest.
