Crystal Palace Stun Liverpool, Win First-Ever Community Shield on Penalties

Wembley witnessed history on Sunday as Crystal Palace lifted the Community Shield for the first time in their history, overcoming Premier League champions Liverpool 3–2 on penalties after an intense 2–2 draw in regular time.

Liverpool struck first in the 4th minute when new signing Hugo Ekitike marked his debut in style, smashing a precise shot beyond the Palace goalkeeper.

Palace responded in the 17th minute, with Mateta J. slotting home after a sharp passing move. But Liverpool’s fresh firepower shone again just four minutes later — another new arrival, Frimpong, delivered a looping cross that caught the keeper off guard, sneaking in at the far post to restore Liverpool’s lead.

The game hung in the balance until the 77th minute, when Palace forward Saar I. pounced on a defensive lapse to level the score at 2–2. Despite late chances for both sides, the match headed to penalties.

The shootout brought high drama: Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, Alexis Mac Allister, and Harvey Elliott all failed to convert from the spot, while Palace kept their composure to seal a famous 3–2 victory.

For Liverpool, the loss serves as an early wake-up call ahead of their title defense, while Crystal Palace leave Wembley with silverware — and a statement that they can mix it with England’s elite.
