The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has dismissed reports suggesting that the tenure of Comptroller General Adewale Adeniyi has been extended, labeling such claims as false and misleading.
In an official statement issued on Tuesday, the NCS National Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Maiwada, clarified that the appointment and tenure extensions of the CGC fall exclusively under the President’s jurisdiction, as outlined in the NCS Act 2023 and other governing regulations.
“The attention of the NCS has been drawn to a fake release purportedly from the State House, claiming that the tenure of the CGC, Adewale Adeniyi, has been extended. The NCS categorically states that this information is inaccurate and misleading,” Maiwada asserted.
He further emphasized that no official directive regarding any tenure extension has been communicated to the service by the relevant authorities.
Reaffirming the service’s dedication to its core responsibilities, Maiwada noted that the leadership remains focused on trade facilitation, revenue generation, and border security.
He highlighted that under Adeniyi’s guidance, the NCS has introduced key reforms aimed at modernizing operations, strengthening inter-agency collaboration, and fostering national economic growth.

The NCS urged the public and stakeholders to rely solely on official channels for updates concerning the service.
Maiwada stressed that any decisions on appointments or tenure extensions will be formally communicated through the appropriate government authorities.
“The service appreciates the continuous support of stakeholders and remains committed to upholding transparency, professionalism, and national service,” he concluded.
The NCS’s response aims to dispel any misinformation and reaffirm its commitment to operational integrity and public trust.
