The Independent National Electoral Commission has recorded a significant spike in voter registrations, with over 1.2 million Nigerians completing the process in the second phase of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
INEC disclosed the figures in an official update posted on its X handle on Thursday, February 19, revealing that a total of 1,228,648 eligible citizens had fully completed registration under Phase II as of February 13, 2026, marking Week Six of the exercise.
The number represents a notable jump from the 884,737 registrations recorded at the end of Week Five, indicating growing public interest in the exercise as the 2027 general elections draw closer.
Of the total registrants, 673,124 began the process through online pre-registration, while 555,524 completed their registration physically at designated INEC centres across the country.
Jigawa State led the registration table with 98,698 new voters, accounting for 8.03 per cent of the national total.

The gender breakdown showed that women outnumbered men in the registration exercise. INEC stated: “Female – 696,891 (57%); Male – 531,757 (43%).”
Young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 34 dominated the figures, making up 69.02 per cent of all registrants with 848,066 sign-ups. The commission also recorded 19,414 registrations from persons with disabilities nationwide.
The exercise is currently running in all states of the federation except the Federal Capital Territory, where the Continuous Voter Registration has been suspended in compliance with the Electoral Act ahead of the FCT Area Council elections scheduled for Friday, February 21.
Phase II of the CVR kicked off on January 5, 2026, and is expected to continue until April 2026. It builds on the first phase, which ran from August to December 2025 and added approximately 2.78 million new voters to the national register.
