Dangote Issues Ultimatum to Kaduna Businessman Over Defamatory Claims

Dr Aliko Dangote, President of Dangote Group, has given Kaduna-based businessman Engr. Kailani Mohammed a seven-day ultimatum to retract and apologise for alleged defamatory statements against him and his businesses or face a N100 billion lawsuit.

The ultimatum, sent through Dangote’s lawyer, Dr Ogwu James Onoja, SAN, was contained in a letter dated Dec. 20, 2025.

It described statements made by Mohammed during a Dec. 17, 2025, interview on TrustTV as false, reckless and malicious, including claims about Dangote’s source of wealth and alleged business activities in Port Harcourt in the 1980s, allegations the billionaire strongly denied.

Dangote’s legal team demanded a full retraction, a public apology broadcast with equal prominence to the original interview, and a written undertaking that the statements would not be repeated.

The notice warned that failure to comply within seven days would compel Dangote to pursue civil action for aggravated damages, including the N100 billion suit, and possible criminal defamation proceedings.

The letter emphasised that the claims had no factual basis and were capable of causing serious reputational and commercial damage.

As of press time, Kailani Mohammed had not responded publicly to the ultimatum.
