Dangote Starts National Petrol Supply August 15 With Credit Bait

Despite an ongoing disagreement between the Dangote Petroleum Refinery and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) over fuel pricing, the Presidency has stated that President Bola Tinubu will not interfere in the matter.

Amid this backdrop, the Dangote Refinery has announced that it will commence the nationwide distribution of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), commonly known as petrol, and diesel starting August 15, 2025.

In a statement released on Sunday, the refinery revealed that it has invested in 4,000 new Compressed Natural Gas (CNG)-powered tankers to bolster its fuel supply operations across the country.

The company noted that the distribution process will be phased and complemented by over 100 mobile CNG tankers and the establishment of CNG filling stations to ensure efficient last-mile delivery.

According to the company, petroleum products will be supplied directly to marketers, fuel stations, manufacturers, telecom firms, and aviation companies—without additional logistics charges. This, it said, is aimed at eliminating third-party costs and making fuel more affordable.

“This strategic programme is part of our broader commitment to eliminating logistics costs, enhancing energy efficiency, promoting sustainability and supporting Nigeria’s economic development,” the statement read.

“All petrol stations buying from Dangote Petroleum Refinery will enjoy these logistics benefits. Major sectors like manufacturing and telecoms will experience reduced fuel-related expenses, aiding in inflation control and driving economic growth.”

In a bid to support large-scale purchasers, the company also introduced a two-week credit facility for clients who purchase at least 500,000 litres of petrol or diesel.

Such buyers will be eligible to receive another 500,000 litres on credit, backed by a bank guarantee.

Interested stakeholders are required to complete registration and Know Your Customer (KYC) verification between June 16 and August 15 to participate in the programme.

The company linked the move to the broader economic agenda of President Bola Tinubu, stating that the initiative aligns with his Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly the goal of achieving industrial growth and sustainable development.

“We thank the federal government for its support, especially through the Naira-for-Crude initiative, which has contributed to fuel price stability despite global market disruptions,” the company added.

The refinery expressed optimism that its fuel distribution strategy will energise the small and medium-sized enterprise (SME) sector, boost government revenues, and attract new investments to Nigeria’s petroleum industry.

“This is a major revolution in Nigeria’s midstream and downstream oil sector. We are committed to ensuring equitable fuel access for all Nigerians, wherever they may be,” the statement concluded.

The Dangote Refinery, located in Lekki Free Trade Zone, Lagos, is the largest single-train refinery in Africa with a processing capacity of 650,000 barrels per day. It began operations in 2024.
