LNigerian music star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has appealed to United States President Donald Trump and the international community to closely monitor the August 15 governorship election in Osun State.
Davido, whose uncle, Governor Ademola Adeleke, is seeking re-election, made the appeal in a statement shared on his official X account on Wednesday.
The singer expressed concern over reports and fears of possible violence, intimidation and disruption of the electoral process ahead of the poll.
He urged Trump and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage Nigerian authorities to protect voters and ensure that their votes are counted.
“A CALL FOR ATTENTION TO PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP,” Davido wrote.
The singer said residents of Osun State deserved to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely and peacefully without fear.
“Osun people deserve to exercise their constitutional right to vote freely, peacefully, and without fear,” he said.
Davido also appealed to political actors and security agencies to prevent violence and intimidation during the election.
He stressed that the people of the state should be allowed to participate in the electoral process without fear of attacks or interference.
“We do not want bloodshed. We do not want intimidation. We want peace, transparency, and a free and fair election,” he said.
The singer further called on the United States and other members of the international community to encourage relevant Nigerian authorities to ensure adequate protection for voters and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.
“I appeal to the United States and the international community to pay close attention to the election and encourage all relevant authorities to ensure that every voter is protected and every vote is respected,” Davido said.
The appeal comes ahead of Saturday’s governorship election, in which Governor Ademola Adeleke is seeking another term in office.
The election has generated heightened political activity across Osun State, with candidates and their supporters intensifying campaigns and mobilisation ahead of the poll.
Davido’s intervention also comes amid growing public attention on the security and credibility of the election, with stakeholders calling for a peaceful and transparent process.
Although the singer has a personal connection to the election through his uncle, his latest statement focused on the broader need to protect voters and ensure that the electoral process reflects the will of the people.
Davido concluded his appeal by directly tagging President Trump and reiterating his demand for peace, transparency and a credible election.
