Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has taken a swipe at Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo following comments the governor made about Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during a campaign rally.
Davido reacted on Friday by sharing what appeared to be Okpebholo’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result on his Instagram Stories, a move widely interpreted as a subtle response to the governor’s criticism of Adeleke.
Although the singer did not attach any written comment to the post, the development quickly generated reactions across social media platforms.
The controversy follows remarks made by Okpebholo while campaigning for the All Progressives Congress governorship candidate in Osun State, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO.
Speaking at the rally, which was attended by Kogi State Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo and other party leaders, the Edo governor criticised Adeleke’s well-known love for dancing, suggesting that it had become a distraction from governance.
“Before somebody signs paper, he will dance. Are you not tired? For four years, this man has been dancing. Before he takes breakfast, before he drinks tea, he will dance,” Okpebholo said.
He also urged residents to collect money from political opponents while casting their votes for the APC candidate in the August 15 governorship election.
Davido, who is Governor Adeleke’s nephew, has remained one of the most visible supporters of the Osun governor’s re-election bid.
In recent weeks, the singer has participated in campaign activities and repeatedly called for a peaceful, transparent and credible electoral process.
The exchange marks the latest twist in the heated political contest ahead of the governorship election, which has attracted widespread attention both within and outside the state.
