Dawkins Hails UK Ruling: Law Finally Matches Science on Transgender Debate

British biologist Richard Dawkins has weighed in on the latest UK Supreme Court judgment, which reaffirmed that the legal definition of a “woman” under equality law is based on biological sex.

Deputy President of the court, Lord Hodge, presented the decision publicly on the 16th of April, 2025. Since then, the ruling has sparked a wave of discussion online.

Dawkins, known for his unapologetic takes on science and society, welcomed the verdict in a post on X.

“Supreme Court rules that a woman is legally defined as … a woman,” Dawkins wrote.

He added, “Congratulations. And ‘The concept of sex is binary, a person is either a woman or a man’. Yes, the science was settled in the Precambrian [era]. Nice that the law has finally caught up.”

His comments echoed the sentiments of British author JK Rowling, who also expressed approval of the court’s stance on transgender women.
