Decomposed Body Discovered in Car at National Assembly Gate

The decomposed body of a 55 year old man was found on Sunday, September 7, 2025, around 9 a.m. inside a red Peugeot 406 with registration number BWR-577 BF parked near the annex gate of the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

The deceased has been identified as Gaddafi Iwar, a Tiv man who was said to have been working as a labourer at a construction site within the complex.

His body had reportedly gone unnoticed for several days before the discovery.

Security officials moved the remains to the National Assembly Clinic, where doctors confirmed he was dead.

The body was later rejected by Asokoro General Hospital because of its advanced state of decomposition.

Community leaders from Tiv eventually collected the corpse and buried it in Gbawu village, on the boundary of Abuja Municipal Area Council and Kuje Area Council, to prevent any health risks.

Security analyst Zagazola Makama, who confirmed the incident, said the discovery highlighted serious surveillance lapses at the National Assembly, questioning how a vehicle with a decomposing body could remain undetected for days in a heavily guarded environment.

Investigations are ongoing to establish how the vehicle entered the premises and why it was not detected earlier by security personnel.

The case has sparked public concern about security checks and monitoring at one of Nigeria’s most protected government facilities.
