Deploy Security Personnel to Home Regions‐ Sani

Former Senator representing Kaduna Central, Shehu Sani, has urged the Federal Government to adopt a crucial change in strategy for combating Nigeria’s security challenges, specifically calling for the recruitment and deployment of military and police personnel to their states of origin.

Sani made the recommendation in a post on his verified X handle on Wednesday, the 26th of November, 2025. His comments come against the backdrop of the intense wave of insecurity confronting the nation, which has seen continuous mass abductions of citizens, including schoolchildren.

The former Senator argued that this strategy is the most effective way to fight terrorism and banditry, as local personnel possess far superior knowledge of the environment compared to security officers transferred from other states.

He stressed the importance of specialized training and the provision of modern, sophisticated equipment to enhance their operations.

Sani laid out his proposal plainly: “In combatting bandits and terrorists, the recruitment of military and police personnel should place emphasis on regions with the highest levels of insecurity.

“They should be recruited, trained, equipped and sent to their states and regions to fight the criminals. They know their terrain better than anyone,” he said.
