Diri Dedicates Good Governance Awards to Bayelsans, Urges Cabinet to Prioritize Public Interest

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has dedicated his recent accolades on good governance to the people of Bayelsa, attributing the state’s growing national recognition to the collective efforts of the government and the unwavering support of citizens.

Speaking during the 160th State Executive Council meeting held in Yenagoa on Wednesday, Governor Diri said the awards—one from Vanguard publishers and another from the maritime industry—are a reflection of the success of his administration’s “Prosperity Government” agenda, which he insists is driven by peace, security, and people-centered policies.

“These awards are not just for me,” Diri said. “They are for the people of Bayelsa, the executive, the legislature, and the judiciary. Let us all continue to do our bits that will lead to a whole. In our various ministries, departments, and agencies, we must put the interest of the state above our personal interests.”

The governor charged all public office holders in the state to remain focused and accountable, adding that the recognition Bayelsa is receiving from outside its borders is the result of hard work and commitment to public service.

Referencing the recent visit of the Nigerian Guild of Editors to various project sites across the state, Diri emphasized that the awards were not procured, but genuinely earned.

“These are awards that motivate. They are awards we all merited,” he said.

A highlight of the council meeting was the formal presentation of the “Best Maritime Friendly Governor of the Year” award, which was received on the governor’s behalf by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Nimibofa Ayawei, at the 27th Maritime Industry Merit Award ceremony held in Lagos.
