ODAHIEKWU OGUNDE, Yenagoa

Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri has promised to flag off the all-important Nembe-Brass Road in the state that has been on the drawing board for many years.

The governor made the promise when he received the leadership of the Nembe-Se Congress led by its President, Prof. M.I Godwin Egein, on a courtesy visit to Government House, Yenagoa.

Diri, who noted that the benefits of the road could not be overemphasized, said government would commence the road project by April this year.

Diri said: “The Nembe-Brass road will kick-off under our watch. This road, if constructed, will have huge economic benefit to the state.

“This is one of the roads that has security embedded in it, so we will do all it takes to commence that road project.”

Recall that Diri recently re-echoed the significance of the road from Nembe to the Brass Island in Brass Local Government Area of the state to the country’s economy.

He had reiterated his call on the Federal Government following President Muhammadu Buhari’s Executive Order 7 of 2019 on the Road Infrastructure Development and Refurbishment Investment Tax Credit Scheme to construct roads across the country.

He had said that given the value of Nembe-Brass road and its capacity to cut the cost of operations of the oil companies in the Brass area as well as significantly stimulate the economy of the state, there was imperative need for the Federal Government to construct the road that had been on the drawing board for many years.

He also extended his call to members of the National Assembly from the state to support the move in the interest of the state and the country.
