Dr Awele Elumelu Takes Helm as Transcorp Hotels Board Chair

Transcorp Hotels Plc has appointed Dr Awele Vivien Elumelu as its new Board Chair, effective January 1, 2026. She will succeed Emmanuel N. Nnorom, who is retiring from the role.

The move is part of the company’s planned board transition. Transcorp Hotels, the hospitality arm of Transnational Corporation Plc, is listed on the Nigerian Exchange under the ticker TRANSCOHOT.

Dr Elumelu is a medical doctor with an MBBS from the University of Benin and clinical experience in Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

Her career spans healthcare, insurance, corporate governance, and philanthropy.

She chairs Avon Healthcare Limited (Avon HMO), Avon Medical Practice, Heirs Insurance Brokers, and is a founding director of Heirs Holdings Limited.

She has completed executive education at Harvard Business School, IMD Switzerland, and the London School of Economics.

Beyond her corporate roles, Dr Elumelu is a trustee and co-founder of the Tony Elumelu Foundation, which has empowered thousands of African entrepreneurs through training, mentorship, and seed capital.

She is also the wife of Tony O. Elumelu, chairman of Transnational Corporation Plc and founder of the foundation.

Tony O. Elumelu described her appointment as a strategic boost that will help Transcorp Hotels enhance guest experiences and create long-term value for stakeholders.
