A drone strike targeted the Ali Al Salem Air Base on Sunday, a military installation in Kuwait that hosts personnel from Italy and the United States, according to the Italian military.
The incident was confirmed by Luciano Portolano, Chief of the Defence General Staff, who disclosed in a statement that the drone struck a shelter housing an aircraft belonging to the Italian Task Force Air contingent stationed at the base.
According to the statement shared on X by the armed forces, the remotely piloted aircraft was destroyed in the attack.
However, authorities said all personnel present at the facility at the time of the incident were safe and no injuries were recorded.
Italian military officials noted that the number of troops stationed at the base had already been reduced in recent days due to the evolving security situation in the region.
They explained that the personnel who remain at the installation are currently focused on carrying out essential operational duties.
Despite the loss of the aircraft, the military said it was an important asset that had been deployed at the base to support ongoing operational activities and ensure continuity of missions.

The attack comes amid rising tensions across the Middle East. Italian forces have also recently faced security threats elsewhere in the region.
