A Ukrainian drone strike has triggered a fire at a railway station in Russia’s Volgograd region, disrupting transportation and energy infrastructure, according to Russian authorities.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, August 4, 2025, when drones targeted the Archeda railway station located in Frolovo, approximately 150 kilometers northeast of the city of Volgograd. Regional officials confirmed that a technical building at the station caught fire following the attack, though passenger platforms and main tracks were reportedly not damaged.
Emergency responders were swiftly deployed to the scene, managing to contain the blaze before it could spread further. In addition to the fire, sappers were called in to safely remove an unexploded drone that had landed on the railway tracks, leading to temporary suspensions of train operations in the affected area.
Governor Andrei Bocharov of the Volgograd region described the assault as part of a “massive wave of drone attacks” aimed at critical energy and transport infrastructure. He noted that the falling debris from intercepted drones also damaged a high-voltage power line in the Ilovlinsky district, causing power outages in nearby villages and igniting brushfires in the surrounding grasslands.
Train services were delayed by up to an hour and a half as authorities conducted safety inspections and cleared the unexploded ordnance. Similarly, operations at Volgograd’s regional airport were briefly halted but resumed later in the morning after aerial threats were declared neutralized.

Russia’s Ministry of Defence announced that air defense systems intercepted a total of 61 Ukrainian drones overnight, including six that were shot down over the Volgograd region. While no casualties have been reported, the incident underscores the increasing frequency of Ukrainian long-range drone strikes targeting Russian infrastructure far from the frontline.
Ukrainian officials have not issued any public statements regarding the attack as of the time of this report. Reuters and other international news agencies have indicated that independent verification of the extent of the damage remains pending.
This attack comes amid a broader escalation of drone operations by Kyiv, which has recently intensified its targeting of logistics hubs, oil depots, and military installations inside Russian territory as part of its asymmetric warfare strategy.
