DSS releases ex-CBN deputy gov, Mailafia after six hours’ grilling

…as protesters keep ‘vigil’ in front of security agency’s office

For six hours that the Department of State Services in Jos, Plateau State, held the former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Obadiah Mailafia, on Wednesday, a crowd gathered outside the Jos office of the security agency to demand his release.

Mailafia was later released a few minutes past 6pm after being grilled for six hours by DSS operatives.

The former CBN deputy governor was invited by the DSS to appear at its office in Jos on Wednesday over an interview he granted a radio station in which he accused an unnamed northern governor of being the sponsor of Boko Haram.

Mailafia had earlier arrived at the DSS office in the West of Mines Street at about 12:30 pm in an ash-coloured Range Rover SUV marked Abuja 843 LX.

He was immediately ushered into one of the offices alongside his lawyer, Pius Akubo, SAN while many others who came with him in solidarity were barred from entering the premises by operatives stationed at the entrance leading to the compound.

Mailafia’s supporters barred from the DSS office were later joined by many others, who gathered outside the DSS compound with placards demanding the release of the former CBN deputy governor after he had been grilled for about six hours.
