D’Tigress Receive Full Government Rewards Following AfroBasket Triumph

Nigeria’s women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, have received the full rewards promised by the Federal Government for their triumph at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket Championship.

The team, which defeated Mali 78‑64 in the final last August, was honoured on Monday, March 16, 2026, in Lyon, France, where they are currently participating in the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup qualifying tournament.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved a cash reward equivalent to $100,000 for each player and $50,000 for the coach and technical staff.

He also conferred the Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) national honour on all players and technical crew members and directed that a flat be allocated to each recipient.

The house title documents and national honours certificates were formally presented to the team by the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Shehu Dikko, and the Commission’s Director General, Bukola Olopade.

The recognition marks the completion of the government’s pledge to the team, ensuring that the players and staff are rewarded both financially and with lasting honours as they continue to represent Nigeria on the global stage.
