Ebem Ohafia community in Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has imposed an immediate and total prohibition on the sale, consumption and distribution of hard drugs, as well as cult-related activities, gun violence and other forms of criminality.
The decision was announced on Tuesday, the 13th of January, 2026, by the Ebem Ohafia youths in partnership with the Central Executive Council of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union, with the full endorsement of the Ebem Ohafia Council of Chiefs and Elders.
In a statement issued by the Public Relations Officer of the Ebem Ohafia Development Union, Ifeanyi Okali, criminal elements reportedly using the community as a safe haven were ordered to leave without delay. The statement further warned that any indigene found sheltering such individuals would be sanctioned accordingly.
“With immediate effect, the community has banned the sale, use, and trafficking of hard drugs and illicit substances in Ebem Ohafia. Anyone found guilty will face stiff fines and disciplinary measures, regardless of status.
“The community has also issued a final warning on cultism, directing all persons involved to renounce such activities or face severe community sanctions and prosecution.

“Furthermore, fighting with weapons, brandishing of firearms, and gunshots are strictly prohibited. Any offender will be handed over to security agencies, face heavy fines, and risk additional community sanctions,” the statement read.
The community leadership also resolved that Ndi Ikwu would be held accountable for offenders within their respective areas, with penalties including possible suspension from hosting social or cultural ceremonies where deemed necessary.
Additionally, traders operating along the Ebem Police Station/Court Road and within the Ebem Daily Market were cautioned against blocking drainage channels, walkways and designated free zones. The community warned that any such infractions would result in the immediate seizure of goods.
