The Edo State House of Assembly has terminated the appointments of all political aides attached to its members, with the decision taking immediate effect.
Speaker Blessing Agbebaku made the announcement during Wednesday’s plenary session in Benin, revealing that the decision was reached unanimously by all 24 members of the House.
He confirmed that the affected appointees, including special advisers and senior special advisers, would still receive their February salaries.
Agbebaku explained that the appointees were initially engaged by House members following the inauguration of the Eighth Assembly in June 2023.
“I believe it has been nearly two years now, and the House has graciously agreed that these appointees, including special advisers and senior special advisers, should be relieved of their duties as of today, 19 February,” he stated.
He added that the House would convene at a later date to determine the next steps regarding legislative staffing.
