Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have apprehended several individuals suspected of engaging in vote-buying during the ongoing Edo State governorship election.
The arrests took place in Egor Local Government Area around 10:00 am, where EFCC officials detained three suspects, two males and a female, as part of efforts to curb electoral malpractice.
However, the operation faced some resistance from local residents, who accused the EFCC of victimizing the suspects. Despite the pushback, EFCC officers proceeded with taking the suspects into custody for further investigation.
Vote-buying has been a significant concern in elections across the country, with authorities promising to take strict action against those involved. The EFCC’s intervention in Edo is part of broader security and anti-corruption measures aimed at ensuring a free and fair election.
Further updates on the investigation are expected as the election progresses.
